Now's the time to book your senior portrait session. Get your photos done early in the school year so that they can be used throughout the year as Christmas gifts for grandparents and other family members, in the yearbook, at graduation parties, announcements and invitations... everywhere! There are so many fun things going on this year! So rather than sitting for the boring photos in the school gym like every other year, have a custom senior photography session. We'll plan the photo session from start to finish with you in mind. Your photos should reflect your personality and who you are. You only get to be a senior once, so make your graduation portraits a one of a kind unforgettable experience with Amanda Severson Photography.
WHAT TO WEAR: When it comes to picking out an outfit I always say that simplicity is key, especially for senior pictures. These are the pictures that you'll look back on years from now to remember this fun time in your life, so you don't want to dress too wacky! Try to keep it timeless. Haha. While logos, prints and patterns are fun, you have to think about what will be the most flattering once photographed. For the most part, solid colors will turn out the best. Last but not least, lets face it... your mom wants you to look nice. Guys your grandma wants a photo of you in a button down! Just do it already, do it for them! We'll get the fun personal photos too, but don't forget what the fam is dying to see.
Beware of baggy clothes that can make you look boxy. Although people usually try hiding flaws under loose clothing, they generally make you look bigger. Choose slim fitting, (but not super tight or clingy) clothing in dark shades for a slimming effect. If you go with flowy boho look, opt for sheer or lighter fabrics. Alternatively, a monochromatic light color scheme looks great too!
-Make it matte! Shiny or shimmery come out reflective in photos. It may look good in person, but remember a camera is only 2 dimensional and you don't want to look oily.
-Go a bit darker than usual, not talking raccoon eyes, just make your eyes pop. Go a shade or 2 darker on your lips, even if you don't normally wear lipstick, remember that bare lips blend right into your skin on camera.
-Go a tad bit darker on your blush and bronzer, and don't forget concealer for a flawless look. Just be sure to blend those edges.
PREPPING FOR YOUR PHOTO SHOOT: First of all, fill out the senior photoshoot questionnaire that was emailed to you with your booking information. Check out the Pinterest board for ideas. Make sure your hair is trimmed, and nails are cleaned and/or painted. Remember to get plenty of rest the day before your session. Try not to make any drastic changes that will turn out as a distraction in your finished images. For a healthy glow, make sure to moisturize your skin days before and stay hydrated. Also, have your laundry done, clothing ironed and outfits packed neatly the night before so you’re not stressed out the day of your session.
WHAT TO BRING: It's your day and all about you! Bring a few of your favorite outfits, a couple of cool accessories (hats, jewelry, sports equipment...) maybe even your pet. If you have a friend of family member who wants to jump in for a photo or two have them come along. Depending on the length of the session you book, you may want to bring some snacks and water.
Bring a few outfits and props. Whatever makes you feel like you. What's your next adventure? represent your major. Lit majors, lets shoot in the library. Let's really showcase who you are. Do you play sports? Bring your jersey! Play guitar? bring it along! If you're a surfer, lets head to the beach and get some shots of you on the water... the possibilities are endless.
Most importantly, remember to enjoy yourself! I'm here to help you pose and look your best. Don't be afraid to get a little goofy. Just relax and open up it will lead to an awesome end result.
Invite your bestie! Surviving school without your friends is kind of an impossible task, which is why including them in your senior pictures is perfect. Plus, if you book back to back senior sessions... everyone gets a 10% discount!
